The Works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft

(For Palm OS devices like the Palm, Visor or Clié)

Note: All of these texts were converted from HTML versions found at The H.P. Lovecraft Library. I only converted them. If you really want to thank anyone, thank the people who run that website and transcribed and collected all these books. It's a very interesting read at any rate, so please do pay the Library a visit. I also shamelessly lifted this list of books from there to create this page from. Sorry!

And another note: It appears that the Lovecraft Library has disappeared from the web. I made a mirror of the HTML versions of all the stories as well as the ones converted to plain TXT. You can see the HTML/TXT versions here.

Any Palm OS device makes a great eBook reader, but converting books to a format usable on the Palm is sometimes cumbersome. If you're particularly unlucky, you might even need to use an expensive commercial tool to move everything into a proprietary, non-standard format that you can only use with a certain software maker's eBook readers. I wanted to read Lovecraft on the train, so I decided to convert his works to a more Palm-friendly format. I chose the Palm Doc format -- it's the most established standard document format on the Palm. I only used free, open source software for the conversion, and here are the results. If you use a solid (and still free) Doc reader like CSpotRun, I think the results are comparable to what some of the commercial tools will get you. CSpotRun now even has a bookmark feature, something that many people missed. Very convenient.

Repeated, for people who only read boldface text: You WILL need a Palm Doc reader on your Palm to read these books. I recommend CSpotRun. It's completely free. Please donate some money to the author if you use it frequently.

WARNING: These are over 100 books. Don't install them all to your Palm at the same time, especially if you have an older model. I successfully had 25 of them in memory on a Palm V, but I managed to completely crash an emulator running with an older Palm Pro ROM.

If you find any damaged files among these or notice any oddities not present in the original HTML versions, please e-mail me.

If you prefer to get one single big file instead of picking the books you like from the list below, you can download all these books in one ZIP file (2.2 MB). If you use some flavor of UNIX, you might like a .tar.bz2 (2.1 MB) or .tar.gz (2.2 MB) file better.
